Maternal Health Awareness Day

This Thursday is Maternal Health Awareness Day (January 23rd), as Your Favorite Nurse Yogi,  I am going to share education over the next 3 days to bring awareness on this topic.

Today letโ€™s discuss Preeclampsia.

What is preeclampsia?

Preeclampsia is high blood pressure that can start during and AFTER pregnancy. After you have the baby, it is important to monitor your blood pressure. If you are unsure where to purchase a blood pressure cuff, check your local library and rent one. Yes, you can rent a blood pressure cuff from your local library (shout out to OCLS )

Blood pressure readings that are 140/90 and greater during pregnancy are define as preeclampsia and you need to be seen by a provider ASAP.

Other signs of preeclampsia are the following:

๐Ÿ“ Throbbing headache

๐Ÿ“ Swelling of the lower extremities; picture this- you press your lower leg and your fingerprint stays, CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

๐Ÿ“ Blurry vision; again CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

Tomorrow  I will share ways you can prevent and treat preeclampsia.

Moms; did you experience preeclampsia during or after your pregnancy?

Please share below and help save a momโ€™s life.
