It’s National Stress Awareness Day

How to relax post election day…

Tomorrow is National Stress Awareness Day, not sure if its a good thing that we have a day dedicated to stress, BUT! This does mean that more and more people are acknowledging that stress is a real thing. I also want to say that stress is a normal part of life, the issue is when your stress affects your physical body and shows up as high blood pressure, becoming irritable for “no reason”, etc.

So as I am typing this it is Election Day and chileeeee, talk about SKRESS. Yes I said SKRESS and not Stress cause everyone is stressed, me included. So I gotta go back in my yogi toolkit and share one of my wellness practices that helps me come back to me and get grounded.

It is the 4-7-8 breathing technique which helps manage stress, improve sleep, and boost focus. As a nurse, mom, and entrepreneur, I know how challenging it can be to find time for self-care, which is why I love this quick yet powerful tool.

Here are 3 reasons why the 4-7-8 breathwork technique could be exactly what you need in your life:

🧘🏾‍♀️ Stress Reduction – When life gets overwhelming, this breathing technique provides a quick and effective way to reset, lower your heart rate, and calm the mind. It’s simple yet impactful.

😴 Improved Sleep Quality – Struggling with sleep? The 4-7-8 breath helps to activate the body’s relaxation response, making it easier to drift off and improve the quality of your rest.

🎧 Enhanced Focus and Clarity – Staying focused can be tough with so much on our plates. This technique helps me stay centered and clear-headed, which is how I manage to accomplish so much in a day!

If you’re looking to lower stress and reclaim your calm, try setting aside a few moments today to practice the 4-7-8 breathwork. Here’s a quick guide:

1. Inhale for 4 seconds.

2. Hold your breath for 7 seconds.

3. Exhale slowly for 8 seconds.

4. Repeat this cycle a few times, focusing on your breath and noticing how your body responds.

As always, let’s make time for our wellness, especially on a day dedicated to stress awareness. Wishing you a calm and focused week ahead.
